When the hemisphere element joins the mid-ship element, there is a big gap at the top and bottom. This is how the elements were designed. For the hemisphere, each vertical element is made from a single piece of marine plywood, so the height is limited to 8 feet.
For the mid-ship element, each vertical support is made up of 6 elements, so the height can be greater than 8 feet. In the end, there is a hole to fill. I call the plywood cap installed into that gap, the “toe cap”.
Finished the toe cap with 5 layers of 1/2 inch marine ply.
